4/13/2020 0 Comments Remote LearningFor the remote learning project for EDUC 331, I worked in a group with Lauren, Saja and Abril. However, the videos that I watched and gave feedback for were Saja's and Abril's. To start off our discussion we has just a check in with how everyone was doing. We discussed where we were at mentally, our workload, our location and what we have been doing while in quarantine. From watching my peers' videos I learned how you can use technology to fit a lesson into an already existing unit plan, and pick up where you left off before moving to remote learning. I also learned how you can use screen recording tools to voice over a presentation to give students more detail and help them understand what is being taught so they don't just skip through the slides. Saja also made me think about how teachers can make accommodations for students in different situations or lack of materials. For my next remote learning lesson, I would use the screen cast and voice over tools to give more information about the lesson. I would also think about different students situations and how I can incorporate accommodations into my lesson so everyone can learn the material. Overall I really enjoyed this project and it made me learn a lot about the potential of online teaching. You can access the google doc with notes from our group discussion here:

3/9/2020 0 Comments News and Media LiteracyNow a days there are a lot of unreliable sources on the internet. It is important that I teach my students how to find reliable and credible sources. I will show my students https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/purdue_owl.html to make sure they are educated on how to properly cite their sources. I will also encourage them to cross reference information they find with at least two other sources before trusting that it is true.
Since the rise of technology, most of the bullying that students face is through technology. This makes it much harder for teachers to observe and know about, but can make it that much more harmful, especially when it gives anonymity. In order to make students aware I will educate them on what cyber bullying is, and encourage them to stop, block and tell if they are experiencing any; Stop, Block and Tell
When communicating with people online, it is very important to remember your audience and use the appropriate level of formality and language. I will educate my students on this and teach them how to write a professional email and communicate online in order to help them find opportunities in the future, and take accountability for their communications.

Things that get put on the internet stay there forever, but there are ways to limit what people can see. It is important to stay on top of your digital footprint for employment opportunities and other things. As a teacher I will remind my students of this importance and give them these tips to stay on top of their digital presence;

I will encourage my students to make strong passwords and use the website https://howsecureismypassword.net/ to check it. I will also encourage them to keep these tips in mind when using technology;
3/9/2020 0 Comments Media Balance and Well BeingWhile technology can be a great aid and resource for students, the amount of screen time students spend in a day can also be harmful to their mental health. It can cause them to spend less time socializing or outdoors or engaging in activities away from technology. When I am a teacher I will encourage students to monitor their screen time, and make sure that when they do use it they are following the following recommendations;
