Reflection
This class was successful in letting us get to know our students. We not only learned about their interests and hobbies, but also got to see the way they work and communicate to help us lesson plan more effectively in the future. Also students seemed to enjoy the activity and stayed engaged for the majority of the time. I think that since this lesson allowed them to reflect on their own identities, it motivated them to put more effort into it.
However, when we were planning this lesson, we did not know our students' abilities yet. Because of this we did not prepare as many alterations as we should have. Some students struggled with the tracing and cutting parts of the lesson, so we had to do it for them. Many students also finished early. and we did not have another plan other than letting them do another one.
If we were to do this lesson again, I definitely would prepare more modifications for students. For example, having pre-drawn and cut hands on paper would allow students whom were not comfortable tracing or cutting their own to use those. It also would be smart to provide different themes for the hands for if they finished one early. Since their first one was a general overview of their interests, it didn't leave them with anything new to put on a second. However, if we said to focus on one aspect such as favorite food, animal, place, hobby, etc. then they could be more engaged when completing a second or third hand if they finished early.
